It alerts you when you browse to a webpage which is offering a toolbar for download, and it allows you to switch between different community bars with just one click of the mouse. You can also open the Conduit search page from here in your main browser window. If one of the toolbars you have installed has been updated, this is shown here as well. The BFC Toolbar Options Button is your main configuration tool for the Battlefront Community Toolbar. Tell a Friend - invite a friend to become a member of the community Gadgets - here you can select from a growing list of cool custom gadgets to install in your toolbar, including an online radio player, various games, weather forecasts and much more. Help - a link to this help page Privacy - our privacy policy Home Page - our toolbar homepage About - a description of the toolbar features Contact - questions, feedback, suggestions? Submit them here Refresh Toolbar - by clicking here you can force your toolbar to grab the latest updates from the Conduit servers Clear Search History - clear the search history with one click Shrink Toolbar - hides the button labels to shorten the toolbar width. Useful if you have a lot of components installed Toolbar Options - manage your main toolbar settings here. Install or hide and delete components and adjust various other settings here. The search box allows you to look up catchwords from a variety of sources, including the Google powered Conduit search, encyclopedia, dictionary, ebay and more. Use the little separator on the right to expand the text area (it auto-expands as you type in it as well). The highlighter, if enabled, automatically enters any words that you highlight inside the main browser window into the search box. A super-convenient way to look up words or phrases without having to type them by hand! The Web box contains direct links to various areas on the Battlefront portal. You'll find links to the support page, download page, news page, direct links to the discussion forums and much more. The links are dynamically updated should they change or new pages be added, meaning that you always are up to date on where to find stuff at Battlefront. The Feeds box is an RSS reader configured to read Battlefront's main RSS feeds. Currently, there are two - News and Blogfront. Whenever a news item is posted, you'll be the first to know as the Feeds button alert you within minutes. The Chat button opens the built-in toolbar community chatroom. This is a simple non-moderated web-based chat, a temporary solution for the moment until we implement a more sophisticated solution. But you can use it as-is to find multiplayer partners or, well, chat... The Games button is a beta project at the moment. You will find links to various Battlefront games here. If you have a game installed, clicking here will automatically launch it. If you do not have a game installed, clicking here will open the game section in your browser. This is largely experimental at the moment and a first step towards an integrated game launcher / multiplayer feature we're going to implement in the future. The Add button is a cool new feature. While browsing the web, if you run into an interesting webpage that you'd like to share with other community members, all you have to do is click here. A pop-up window opens which automatically grabs the URL of the page you're looking at, and it asks you to enter a title and a description for the link, too. After clicking Save your bookmark is submitted to our admins for review. Once approved, it is automatically added to our WebLinks section and other community members can see it. In fact, the next button, Bookmarks, contains a dynamically updated list of all community submitted links as well! It can take a few hours for the link to show up in the toolbar (it's refreshed a few times a day), but once it does, all community members have all the collected bookmarks, ordered by categories, at their fingertip! This is social bookmarking how it should be. The Spellcheck feature is a nice tool courtesy of Jacuba which works similar to Google's Spellcheck gadget. When you browse to a page which contains a text area (such as a forum), clicking the Spellcheck button activates the Jacuba spellchecker. It highlights any unknown or misspelled words automatically as you type them. You can even create and enhance your own personal online dictionary by adding words which are saved as a cookie on your computer. Future features This isn't all. We're planning to add a number of additional cool features to the community toolbar over time. Below is a short outlook of what's to come... - PBEM Helper
Register a PBEM game with another toolbar user. Upload/download PBEM files via the toolbar. Get instant alerts when a turn file is available for you. - Latest forum posts
See the latest forum posts as RSS feed - Latest mods
See the latest mods posted to the official mod repository as RSS feed - Latest scenarios
See the latest scenarios posted to the official scenario repository as RSS feed - Automatic version check / game updater
Check if you have the latest game version installed and automatically download and install the latest patches - Instant Messenger
Create a Buddy List and you will see who's online. Chat with your buddies and invite them for a game. - Multiplayer Lobby
The evolution from the IM system. See which online games are running, register your own server to get people to join. - ...and much more.
Community created gadgets Community building is what this is all about, so if you would like to create your own gadget and have it included in our toolbar, contact us and let us know! Are you running a league for Battlefront games or a scenario depot, and would like to code a gadget which is showing the latest info or news? Or do you want us to add your RSS feed or blog? The API and documentation are available for free on the Conduit website. After you have a working gadget, email us and, once approved, we'll be happy to add it.
