For the benefit of new users ...

Programs crash and computers hang http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/smile.gif.

The default condition for TacOps is to always automatically save a file named 'AutoSave.tac' (or just 'AutoSave' on the Mac) at the begining of every combat phase. This file is a complete saved game file of your game in progress as of the end of your most recent orders phase. If you experience a game crash or a system problem, you can usually load this file and restart your game exactly where it was before.

The Autosave file will most often be located inside the same folder as the scenario file that you were running. Less often, it may be located at the same folder level as the TacOps game engine.

If you ever get a crash or system hang, immediately locate the AutoSave file and rename the file to something other than 'AutoSave' (so that it will not be overwritten by what follows). Now reload the renamed file and run the combat phase again without making any changes in the unit orders or doing anything else other than starting the combat phase. If this results in another crash then zip that file up and email it to me - a saved game file that always crashes usually makes debugging quick and easy.

"Programs crash and computers hang"

Too true....

"If you ever get a crash or system hang, immediately locate the AutoSave file and [...] run the combat phase again"

Thanks for the advice. I try set all the programs on the systems at work for maximum "auto-backup-ability" but some otherwise-professional software doesn't do this very well.
