QB-Probes?

One of the battle selections for a QB is a "Probe". Now I understand that a probe is a operation for a unit to search for and test the enemy's lines strength. However in CM it sems to me that the 2 opposing forces will just be engaged in a attack /defense type battle. What are the real objectives for a Probe battle in CM? The manual doesn't make any statements re. this matter?

All quick battles are basically just "capture the flag".
The difference is how much stuff you get to do it, and how deep in
enemy territory the flags are.

On the other edge is the meeting, where both get as much,
and the flags are in the middle. And then there's the
assault, where the attacker gets a load of stuff, but the
flags are on the opposite end.
