View Full Version : Who has the smallest member number?

Jarmo
04-11-2001, 12:55 PM
Ok, so the reason I'm curious is that I haven't seen a single user with a smaller number than mine. (except for BTS, who happen to have the 42 :D )

Was there ever a number 1?

Did all the good ole members crash themselves in the frenzies?

Berli, show the man your member.

Is there any way to know what a person's member number is other than making an empty post like this? ;)

I'm 1515 now

BUT I used to be a LOW number less than 1000 until I had to reregister because I corrupted my user profile by attempting to FORCE a post when the server was crashing or crashed or was acting up.

So I had to re-register and loose my LOW number, OH well, 1515 is still "sort-of " low smile.gif

How did your member get numbered?

Does it have to be numbered? Will I get in trouble if mine is unnumbered?

The measuring of members is a time-honered bonding experience between men.
This is most commonly done between those who have a 'Junior Member' attached to them, but among those with a full 'Member' a somewhat more discreet observation method is often employed. ;)

Jarmo
04-11-2001, 02:38 PM
Doh. I should have known to check the pool first.

So I don't have the smallest member after all.
Kind of a relief..

So Berli has been here for longer than BTS.. figures. smile.gif

You can search by member number... I didn't find a number one, but there are numbers lower than 40

Mattias
04-11-2001, 03:00 PM
Just out of curiosity Berlichtingen, how come you have such a low number but has "only" been registered since 11-22-99?

Is it the forum crashes or have you had yours surgically "diminished"?

<----

Actually I have a theory that all of us that were pre-ultimate bulletain board system were listed as having signed on on the first date, so were just numbered alphabetically. If you look, I actually have a lower number than BTS itself... ;)

Oh, and if you want to know your number without posting, just do a search for your previous posts - it'll show up there.

I send Charles/Steve some wine (Pinotage in fact) some time ago - for reasons given elsewhere. In exchange after tasting the wine and being very impressed with the unique cultivar, Charles has send me the registration number - that is #1.

I have decided to put it up for bidding here in the forum. No, don't look at me 2000+ number under my name on the left hand side. I'm not THAT important and self indulgent to ascribe the #1 to my name. Yet.

Starting at a bid of $1.00 for reg. #1 - any offers?

Took a trip down memory lane (a.k.a search) and released that my first post came in a thread where Steve reported that the -first- day of vehicle building was done smile.gif

I can still hear my tender little voice, eyes firmly fixed on my shoes, uttering the words...

"HVSS stands for Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension. This suspension type replaced the vertical volute spring type and was used in later models of the M4 tank.

However, as all M4A3s armed with the 76mm gun (Sherman IVA in UK service) were fitted with wet stowage, it is true to say that a M4A3 (76) HVSS was less likely to brew up. No thanks to the suspension though."

Oh, how the time has passed since those days of adolescence smile.gif

In our collective ignorance, we have ignored the lowest number, 0.

And that honor belongs to Mike D.

When looking for his email, this message popped up.

"No member profile found for member number"

Now that is one insult I though one would only find in the cesspool.

BTW, I found it trying to sse if Herman Munster was number 1313.

This is the thread http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=004290

Mike D cannot be found by searching by member number 0, so this poor fella likely is a member WITHOUT a number, 0 likely being the reported number for numberless members.

Their be other member number 0s, like Thomas William Davie, Capt_Manieri, John Pender
, and Zigster.

I'm pretty sure A. Arabian is right about the alphabetical thing for us folsk from the first day. I'm just a couple below Berli, which is right alphabetically (and is why Bigtime Software is just a couple after him). With number 2 being 007 (using zeroes) and AR and A. Arabian being in the single digits (with R coming before '.' in the alphabet, apparently tongue.gif ), it seems to make sense.

Now, I think latter folks are by when the registered, it's just the early folks who are alphabetical.

Mattias
04-12-2001, 05:32 PM
Sounds reasonable Ben.

However, even among the semi old hands, like around 400, the numbers clearly does not correlate absolutely to the registration date.

There must be something more to it...

There was point in time (looks to be around Nov '99) when there was a problem with the board, and anyone who attempted to post during this (?)2 day period, got their profile corrupted. BTS did what they could to recover them, but were successful only to a limited extent. My 'date' says 5/16/99 which is correct...I didn't attempt to post during this period smile.gif

Not sure if this also had anything to do with the numbering system...could be smile.gif

Well, Wadepm just shot holes in that theory...he's a month older than I am, but his number is bigger.

nono, you must've misunderstood something along the way, the only differentiation the number makes is dividing us into good-looking, intelligent, successful, rich, infallible veteran members, and FNGs, and the division line is three digits to four digits.... also known as the "rule of the upper one thousand" :-p

Just remember, some people have members, other people ARE members...

Given the BBS rebuild, and subsequent reassignment of member thingies (did you get yours back?) that number doesn't mean alot.

Now what DOES matter is the date. When pray tell, did YOU register???

Coming up on 700 days old on the BTS site.

And before all you cranky old codgers start complaining about the Great Board Crash, it was no crash, it was a vaulation by the Gods of CM (no, not Steve and Charles), those Horsemen of the Apocalypse; War, Famine, Pestilence and Plague. A valuation of the board membership. Those found wanting, those found playing those other unmentionable wargames were dismissed and their memories wiped from the board, while those of us pure at heart, forsaking all other games, were spared the indignity, only to see these wanting folk return again...

hehehehehe
