Just want to praise this very battle. It sort of reinvented my fascination for Combat Mission.
Good work!

***SPOILER***
It would be interesting to learn of someone else's use of armour in this battle.
First time I more or less used the default setup for Axis forces, with all PIV's advancing in the middle of the map and the Tiger's approaching the little village on the leftmost of the map. Eventually I got brewed up this way by all those freaking Fireflies. The other time around I swapped places and let the heavy panzers fire away from the distance against the advancing enemy, during which time my PzIV's advanced SLOWLY on the left. This seemed to work much better, and it also seems that a slow approach is the key to this battle. It sort of reminds you of the necessity of letting the guns work effectively.

I am playing this scenario too, and I can not say if I like it. I used default setup. All the PzIVs got under concentrated artillery fire, three lost. Three Tigers rendered useless by 17- pounders. Some more losses of medium tanks in this ditch, le petite ravine. Now I am short of the last objective. The enemy lost 30+ Shermans.
Lessons learned: Never let the infantry behind, create keyholed killzones, where many guns can concentrate on one spot and make sure you have some routes for withdrawal.

I love this scenario too. I 've played around 30 turns so far. I used the default setup and ran with the Tigers into a gun zone and lost two. The Pz IV approached on the right side of the map without much losses yet. I brought the Tigers into the town (through the weed field) to push away the attacking Shermans and it worked. Whatever someone does the scenario shows very good that the advance should be slow. This way CM becomes more realistic I think..

Has anyone converted "Crown of Thorns" (Hill 112) into CMAK yet? Just curious.

Ken Ken,
thanks to Pyewackets excellent tool the maps of "Crown of Thorns" and "Tilly la Campagne" are done. I am planning to release them within the next weeks at "Der Kessel"; if Real Life doesnŽt screw up that plan.
cheers

IŽm looking forward to that.
A shame that I have to go back to work by then, though. ;)
