New scenario available for playtesting

Tankovyi Desant*

In December 1944, somewhere on the Eastern Front, a Soviet armoured advance guard encounters a German Aufklarungs unit screening it’s Division’s withdrawal.

*Tankovyi Desant means tank borne infantry assault

Map Size: 2.8km x 2.4km
Total Points Combined: 10500
Fictional Scenario

This scenario contrasts the Soviet and German tactics used at this period of the war on the Eastern Front. For the Germans the heady advances of 1941 are long gone. Instead, the reality of a prolonged withdrawal under continuous Soviet pressure, punctuated by the odd local success prevails. This fighting withdrawal was destined to end in a bloody finale with the Western and Eastern Fronts meeting in Berlin.

The irony of this period is that the Soviets were able, due to their superiority in armour and material resources, to put into practice the principles of deep penetration armoured combat on a scale the Germans had been only able to theorise about. Conversely the reality for the German armoured troops was fighting a defensive action involving short sharp local counter attacks to eliminate Soviet penetrations of the German MLR or using mobile rear guard units to ambush the Soviet advance guard, then bug out before things became to hot.

This fictional scenario, based on combat accounts from “Tank Rider” by Evgeni Bessonov and “Total Detail: Sdkfz 250/1 Alt ‘GD’ Living History” by Richard Stone, recreates an encounter ‘somewhere’ on the Eastern Front in late 1944 between an advancing Soviet armoured column and a German kampfgruppe made up of elements from an aufklarungs battalion.

Play recommendations
Best played as H2H, or as German Vs Soviet AI. If playing AI it is recommended you stick to scenario default for the first play (thereafter let AI set-up units). Experienced players may wish to give the AI an appropriate combat experience boost.

The challenge for the German player is to operate a series of recon missions to locate (and hopefully survive the contact) the advancing Soviet armoured group, then organise a suitable response. The Soviet player on the other hand has to maintain a suitable pace to advance whilst attempting to evade or destroy the German recon.

Mr Picky says:

Well, to be very accurate "Tankovyi Desant" actually means "Tank-borne infantry assault", roughly.

If you want to say "Tank Rider", the term is "Tankoviy Desantnik."

No hard feelings, just being picky. ;)

Started this a german vs. AI. Took me a while to find the AI (or it finding me), but action has started now. Map is great as always from George.

Anybody who wants to try that as german player (either PBEM pr vs AI), I can share a command map with you. It´s Paintshop Pro V7 format stuff. If you´re interested, droop me mal. ;)

With a name like that I'll not take any chnaces and assume you are indeed, Big ;) Hence Yes Sir! You're right Sir! :D
Thanks for the correction re the name. I'll chnage the translation, but the more accurate translation still fits the scenario, so I'll sticj with that. I took the translation straight from the book. My only Russian stretches to "please" and some very bad swear words - what comes with spending six weeks with Russian climbers in a snow hole!!
Thanks again for the correction - much appreciated smile.gif
