Greetings everyone! We are sure you are going to have lots of questions, comments and opinions about the upcoming Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg game and this is the forum to do so. Hubert and others will try as best they can, when they have the time, to keep everybody up to date on this awesome new title.

Initial and rather quick impression, the units have a Talon Soft look to them only with better detail....if I read it right, it's an interesting decision to go with a tile based board rather than hex based, but will need to see more regarding movement to decide how the game will flow (corner to corner movement?)...tile based v. hex based has always produced some interesting decisions regarding map/terrain configuration...

This what I am talking about :D

Great news. I like the new features.

When it comes out, get it into the stores ASAP - should be a big seller before Christmas. Walmart anyone?

Just a few questions:

1) What are the computer system requirements for the game?

2) Will the unit bases be able to be toggled off?

3) Will the game be hex-based vs the current four-sided hex we now see?

Bravo!

So good, I have to say it again..

Wow!

Total W....?
..something in Flames...?

SC2 is definnitely top of my list!

Looks fantastic, and intriguingly adaptable. It brings to mind the evolution of civ to civ2.
You say the map illustrated isnt at the limit of the engine?
the possibilities....

When will you allow us to give our money to you??

Lurking has been good for a laugh, especially some of the great photos (still smiling about that ronald mcdonald photo, and Kuniworths web page(g)), but now I really cant wait for SC2.

Please keep us updated with regular teasers..I mean information.
Any chance of a demo in the not too distant future?

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks guys!

Also a special thanks to Fernando (resident Battlefront artist) for making the game look fantastic :D , and Matt for setting up the nice announcement pages. Ah heck, all the guys at Battlefront have been great!

Also a big thanks to the small testing team that I've got in place at the moment, Bill and Dave, as their feedback has been invaluable over the last couple of months.

It's going to be a busy road ahead, as you can well imagine and I'll try and pop in from time to time and answer what I can. It's still a little early for me to commit to any *firm* specifics but as we get closer to the end I think the bigger picture will become apparent. Also a demo closer to release time should help answer most of what is remaining ;)

Thanks again!
Hubert

As originally posted by Kelly's Heroes:

2) Will the unit bases be able to be toggled off?

Shoot, this is so easy, even I can answer this one!

Yes. All the way off, or part-way off - you'd see just a "halo-type" circle beneath, or those solidly rounded unit-bases.

What a grand game!
What a grand old time... just ahead!

The game really look good with all the new
features.
BUT i really hope the will have an option that
gives you the oportunity to play it in Top-1D

It really look like civ 2, and i totally loose the feeling of a wargame in this mode. I dont like it. :( I would very much like to old wargames counter mode
(but i might get used to it)

Beside of this it look very good.

The other option with i cube is even worse. (but it gives a feeling from battle of britain though...)

Release scheduled to Q4. Games are often delayed.
How was it when SC was ready. Was it in time or not ?

This brings me back to that long ago time in the Spring of '02. Those were heady day indeed. In a thread such as this we waited, day after day, week after week, month after month for the release of SC. There were setbacks, new release dates, more setbacks and exuberant anticipation which culminated in a consumer frenzy of epic proportions.
Where has the time gone, not to mention the old guard; Bloody Bucket, Straha, Willgamer, John Difool, and Gen.Metaxas to name a few. Will we see days like that again?

Yes, projected release in Q4, but will there be another demo/beta released that alows 1 year of a campaign to be played?

If I remeber correctly, the demo/beta stage resulted in so much fabulous feedback that contributed greatly to the discussion and resulted in some excellent suggestions being implemented in the full release by Hubert/battlefront.

Also, to satisfy the impatient (like myself), can beta testers do some of the great AAR's (with pictures)that scratched the itch for news on how the development of the game is proceeding?

Initial screen shots look realy intriguing and the info released so far confirms that Battlefront is cutting edge strategy/wargame company. Looking forward.....

I tend to lurk and not make many posts but... I cannot wait to get my hands on this game!!

I'd have preferred hexes that seems to be the subject of intense debate further down the forum but if Hubert's gone with tiles well he must have had a good reason.

As I say cant wait!

...will tanks have special movement and combat qualities. I would like to see tanks advance or retreat after combat. ...and, maybe engage in multiple combats.

Tanks should not be infantry on steroids. They should be different. Armored vehicles (not just tanks) made the battlefron more fluid, not just because they were stronger, but because they could keep moving.

...and, by the way, I also would like to see a Macintosh plataform.

Hexes to square - bad
Counters to icons - bad
Map view to angled isometric - bad

I really was attracted to the look of SC and was considering buying it until I saw this SC2 thread. Alas, SC2 looks like a Civ III scenario.

SC1 Finland is too weak they always loos.
Finnish army is too small and weak

If army has 50,000-100,000 and corps 40,000-60,000 men big then Finnish troops has been 1HQ, 2army and 3corps or 1HQ, 1army and 4corps.
Why?
Finnish army size is 600,000 men.
And Finnish troops has good skill and experience.
Why?
USSR army lost up 1 million men for Finnish line.
They not have skill.

I don't know about the size of the Finnish army in SC2 but the Mannerheim HQ will be added.

eppu

Yes I`m from Finland...
Finland army size was 600,000 big at WW2.
But Mannerheim HQ rating must have 8 or 9.
USSR last assault summer 1944 to Finland.
up 350,000 man, 600 tank and 1700 airplane.
And 70% destroyet for Finnish line.
Finland loos up 300,000 man in WW2.
USSR lost millions men 40-44 Finnish line.

USSR lost millions men 40-44 Finnish line. It is alittle difficult to measure military success by comparing death toll ratio. Also I can't quite figure out everything that you're trying to say, sorry :\

Yritän sanoa sitä Suomen armeija on liian heikko ja pieni Stratagic Command 1 sen pitäisi olla vähän isompi ja tehokkaampi tulevassa SC2.

10-18-2004, 10:06 PM
Composition of units in SC, are not based soley on the amount of manpower. So using the total manpower that Finland had under arms, and trying to make SC equivalent sized units won't work.

Of more importance, is the number of artillery tubes and armored fighting vehicles. To some extent, your artillery tubes can be increased by the number of large mortar tubes.

Headquarter units are purely based on what the designer of the game is trying to achieve. Without getting into detail, I suspect that Mannerheim in SC would be better represented in SC by a SC unit with an additional experience bar, not a HQ unit.

Finland indeed does need and deserve some glory. Having minor powers as playable countries always makes a game more exciting.

hellraiser
12-23-2004, 05:26 AM
let's have all the 22 minors playable ... a great possibility to have 1 week turns ...

and, as JJR posted some time ago, skiis should be added to finnish troops, they really used skiis :D
i mean how on earth could a game developer forget to make finland playable and modding skiis for their troops?
i can understand national pride, i have a lot of my own believe me, but let's not forget SC is a Grand Strategy game and this kind of games don't go down to such details like what shoe number Runstedt had when he treaded over polish soil ...
