Battlefront 1.01

P4 3.6ghz

X800 Pro with the latest drivers

2GB RAM

Windows Vista

So, basically, whenever I select a unit, the game freezes for a few seconds and eventually, usually within a few minutes of playing the game locks up without giving any particular error message. Help. :(

I have the same issue but when I select a unit it freezes for about ten seconds and then I am able to move. I have played with video setting and checked my driver..all is good.
My specs are:
Combat Shock online download
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4GHz
2 gig ram
Vista 32
ATI Radeon x1300/x1550 series (driver ver 8.28.0.0)
Sound Blaster
Any help would be appreciated....

This exactly same error happens to me, after only 1-2 minutes in game it freezes and windows cursor appears on the screen and CMSF stops responding. I tried this with 7.4 and 7.7 Catalyst, both having the same problem.

I might also add that when I select units with mouse the game halts for 1-2seconds or often stops responding&throws to desktop with the error

My specs are;
Motherboard: 4CoreDual-VSTA chipset VIA PT880 Ultra
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2.9ghz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Video Card: Radeon X800XT PE 256MB
Sound Card: 7.1 CH Windows® Vista™ Premium Level HD Audio (ALC888 Audio Codec)
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate 32bit

Seems to be a Vista and ATI gfx related problem.

Played the demo on a 2.4Ghz P4, ATI X800. Freezes a lot, barely playable. Especially likes to freeze for the arrow keys (camera control).

For those with AMD 64, we have one user who emailed a working configuration:

The Microsoft hotfix is installed.
The AMD drivers are installed.
The AMD Dual Core Optimizer is NOT installed.

Found a way to play the demo without too much annoyance. Don't touch the keyboard except for the command shortcuts. Camera control keys, zoom caused the problem for me.

Windows vista This is the combo causing the problem - this is not an esoteric combination of gear.

I think we're screwed until ATI becomes aware of the problem and incorporates it into one of the next Catalyst driver releases.

Until then, this demographic of the customer base is screwed.

The problem is this:

A company the size of Battlefront is not likely employing a professional testing company to check for hardware compatibility. It would seem that missing among the beta testers was a single tester with this combo:

Windows Vista 32-bit
ATI
Core 2 (although this may be less of the issue)

This is the difference between a small-budget title and a larger title. Those of us in this boat - certainly a reasonable software/hardware combo - are truly up the creek for what might possibly be weeks.

I can see how OpenGL would be great for cross-platform - unfortunately, OpenGL is a weak-spot for Windows Vista drivers.

AMD Dual Core Optimizer is the likely suspect. Turn it off and see how it works.

How do you turn off the AMD Dual Core Optimizer??? If you are asking people to follow steps to fix things then explain HOW you did it. We are all not tech savvy.

If you run the exe file you used to install it, it will uninstall it. It is here (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html) at the top of the page.

I don't have dual core, so it is not that what is causing the problem. :(

Hi Steve,

I think the focus on AMD dual core is wrong. At least myself and Tarball don't even have an AMD dual core system, and the error in the event viewer is in the ATI open GL driver.

Bump
Until someone includes this left click crash desktop situation in the known problems list.
