Hello everyone,
Whenever i launch the demo, i always get a windows box error message like this:
"AppName: cm shock force demo.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00001010 "
etc...
i tried without success the DEP tweaking describes here:
web page (http://www.battlefront.com/elicense_faq.html)
But it seems i don't have the runservice.exe program in my computer.
i tried reinstalling windows, overwriting the ntdll.dll by another one from a different computer, using the runfirst.exe program
But with no luck so far...
My hardware :
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.15Ghz
1 Go Ram
ATI X1950 XT 512Mo
Windows XP familial edition
ECS Elitegroup P965T-A motherboard
All drivers are up to date
My OS is installed on another harddrive letter than the usual C: it's on H: and in French Language.
If you've any suggestions to solve my problem, i'm all ears.
Thanks for reading,
Michaël
Try this hotfix from Microsoft.

Thank you Rune for your help.
But this hotfix isn't free of charge and i think it only concerns Windows NT.
jas,
Apologies, misread your operating system. Found on a few sites other games having problems. What is your DEP settings set to?

Rune,
No problem.
Concerning DEP, I tried the 2 options:
- essential windows programs and services only
- all programs except those I select
There, I can only put and check shock force demo.exe because I don't find runservice.exe in the windows main directory. (in fact I don't find it anywhere on my hard drive)
But still crashing at launch with the same error message.
I think that microsoft are going to be mad at me because each time I got the error I sent the bug report to them smile.gif

Try to create another administrator account under XP and launch the game .

Thanks Baron Ritzner Von Jung, but it didn't work.
I tried to uninstall the game, create a new admin account, re install the game with that account, but ... :(

Finally, the demo works!
I deleted the ntdll.dll and re-installed windows xp above the old one.
Now, it works fine :D
If you'll excuse me, i've many sandbags to fill in ;)
Jaswolf,
Still trying to find things, just I don't have a French bversion of Xp obviously, and I do not install the o/s on anything but the c drive. I did find this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=84FC577D-F2D5-47B8-AB98-77BA7501B00B&displaylang=en
What service pack of XP are you on so I don't have you look up stuff already fixed?
Rune
jaswolf,
Also do me a favor, re-download the demo and try it with that one. I found a place that says a corrupted file could cause the error.

Rune,
Thank you for your help. I think we've crossposted smile.gif
I have the service pack 2 with all the updates downloaded. dont know how to check the last KB number applied
I forgot to mention in my last post, when I re-installed windows, I force it on the C: drive.
So now, the demo works.
But if you want I can download the new one and test it ?
By the way, I was a little worry about all of this. Because I've already ordered the full game a few days ago before testing the demo (I am a fan of CMAK so I bought CMSF with my eyes closed)
No, glad you got it running. The 1.02 demo is not up yet, so don't worry about downloading it. Glad you got it figured out.

Thank you very much for your concern and your help.
I really enjoy the demo and I'm in a hurry to discover the all game

By the way, those DEP settings really shouldnt ever affect the demo. Thats usually related to elicense and elicense is not on the demo.
