View Full Version : The Skink, maybe in CMBO-CMII?
Today, searching for some data I encountered this Canadian AFV I never saw before ...
The Skink (http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/bunker/3351/allweps/skink.html)
If you read the data in this link, you can see that at least one of them see action in the Western Front.
I think will be great to see that in the re-writing of CMBO with the CMII engine, with an extreme Rarity factor, of course.
But there are another interesting data ...
" Using HEIT ammunition, the Skink proved most valuable in setting fire to buildings, thus forcing the enemy out into the open "
and ...
" In one instance, the Skink attacked a building occupied by 50 enemy soldiers. Ten of them were wounded by HEIT fragments, the others surrendered in terror "
Now I understand the value of those evil Quad 20mm when attacking a building tongue.gif

Pretty cool looking tank. I sure wish we had them in CM but oh well. I'm surprised we didn't come up with something like that. Seems like a very needed AA vehicle to me. Thanks for the info on this vehicle Leta.

but it soon became apparent that the Luftwaffe was being defeated by Allied fighters. In all, only three Skinks and eight turrets were completed before the project was cancelled. It would be fun to have, but with a rarity level like that we'd have better damn well see the M16 GMC frist ;)

Oops! Sorry, double post!

I thought we already had a thread that talked about modelling the kitchen skink.

Hey - I've shot at that turret before!
I wondered what the heck it was from.

I would never support such spawn.
Will your monitor support Cathode Ray Test-Tube Babies?

Canadian armoured regimetns used the
Crusader AA tank - so the question is, who used the Skink? I was under the impression they weren't deployed operationally.
Ah never mind - just read the related link. So a vehicle of which all of - three - saw operational service deserves to be included? Feh. Too much armour in the game as it is. I vote with whoever lobbied for the Crusader (even the M16 GMC) ahead of the sking (or Maus, for that matter...)

"firing about 30 HEIT rounds per second"
I would much rather be on the sending end of that!

So, what kind of animal is a skink anyway? A drunk Canadian crossed with a skunk?

A skink is a small lizard.

My interactions with Canadian women have led me to believe that the Skank is a more commonly deployed variant.

Got me bang to rights gunnergoz. Actually, the first version did have a single Bofors (in an unarmoured mount I think) but the MkIII, which saw service, had two 20mm Oerlikons. Rate of fire was 450rpm I believe. Didn't know the Canucks had 'em, thought it was just us and the Poles.
PS Cpl Carrot - they aren't always that small, have you ever been to Oz? My mother has a four foot long blue tounged skink living in her shed!

Before we get to the skink, CM should model the Flakpanzer IV Kugelblitz.
The coolest tactical AA gun in the world. smile.gif
Twin 30mm belt-fed auto cannons in an armored turret... *drool*
If somebody would do a model of one and take some pictures and send them in,
Kwazy could have the textures for it ready to go. ;)

The coolest AA vehicle in the world is the M15A1 halftrack (..I think that's its designation).
M3 halftrack body, two .50 cals under armor and between them is an automatic 37mm gun! A truely great weapon. Initial version of the vehicle landed in Africa with the U.S. where shot down something like 60 Stukas.Even made it to Korea, was finally withdrawn when the U.S. ran out of old 37mm ammo.

Nuts to your wussy AA vehicles. If you want to include non WWII vehicles than the M163 20mm Vulcan (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m163.htm) is your vehicle.
Imagine knocking buildings down with that one. ;)

GyreneThink I would prefer a ZSU 23-4 :D
Well, we're talking about vehicles to include in CM2 (or II); so, yes, WWII AA guns only. smile.gif
But if BTS does a more recent CM, then I definitely expect to see the Vulcan included
(and the Shilka for the commies). smile.gif
P.S. That M15A1 sounds pretty neat, but I'll still take the twin 30mm's on
the Kugelblitz. ;)

Gyrene
40mm, eh? Interesting. smile.gif
But I would guess that the rate of fire of the twin 30mm's would make for a more
effective hit rate, even though they wouldn't hit as hard per round landed.
Either one would be bad news for enemy aircraft or infantry. smile.gif

Bump,
Just in case this rare beastly Skink gets forgotten in the CMX engine rewrite...

Fuggetabout the M163! Since rarity is off in this thread, I'd rather have the Sgt. York! (prototypes only, but twin 40mm Bofors L/70s in a fully enclosed turret on an M-60 cahssis)
That or the M42 Duster (still twin 40mm Bofors, but open topped on a Chaffee hull)

Tres cool, and I imagine such a tank would become a favourite amongst the gamey force crowd.

That or the M42 Duster (still twin 40mm Bofors, but open topped on a Chaffee hull) The M42 & the older M19 are very similar, both based on the Chaffee. The M42 has the turret in the front, probably making it more suitable for ground fire. (Used in that role at Khe Sahn by US Army)
