v1.21 retail upgrade released PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 28 December 2009

CMSF v1.21 retail / Paradox / GamersgateAs announced a few days ago, Paradox Interactive, our retail distribution partner for Combat Mission Shock Force, has unfortunately decided to stop further support for CMSF, and is not going to release any more patches. For full details on this story, please read the announcement here.

In an effort to not leave retail fans stranded, and be able to enjoy the upcoming upgrades and improvements to the game, Battlefront.com has just released a v1.21 upgrade for those customers who own a retail version of the base game and no other modules. This upgrade costs $1 (primarily for technical reasons of serving it through our download portal).

Paradox/Gamersgate/retail v1.21 patch announcement PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 22 December 2009

ImageUnfortunately, Paradox Interactive is stopping further support for the retail version of Combat Mission Shock Force (including the Paradox retail version as well as the Gamersgate version), which means that it will not release any further patches for the game. Here is the official statement we have received from Paradox Interactive:

"Paradox applauds Battlefront for taking excellent care of its gamers, producing no less than 20 patches for Combat Mission Chockforce over the years. We now need to focus our efforts on more recent releases. The community's long lasting commitment made the work wortwhile and we want to take this chance to thank Battlefront for their efforts and sound a big horray to the CMSF gamers.

Mattias Lilja
Associate producer
Paradox Interactive"

In an effort to not leave fans of the game by the wayside and miss the upcoming further additions and improvements for the series, we have decided to create a special v1.21 "Plain Jane" patch which effectively converts the retail version out there to a Battlefront original version of the game. This v1.21 Plain Jane patch is required ONLY for customers who have the retail version of CMSF AND NO OTHER MODULE. (If you have a module, then you do not need to patch the base game at all; patching a module takes care of the base game automatically).

This means, as of this v1.21, no future special patches will be needed, and any future patches will be compatible for all versions (provided you have applied the v1.21 patch).

For technical reasons, however, this patch has to be released via the Battlefront.com sales platform. This is to ensure compatibility, provide the download links and give you a proper e-license key in a fully automated process (including storing the key in your customer account). Therefore, the patch cannot be released "for free". A nominal charge of $1 is necessary for our sales platform to function. Incidentially, this $1 charge also offsets the costs associated with delivering the patch to you (bandwidth and licensing cost).

The v1.21 Plain Jane upgrade is currently being tested to make sure it really is fully compatible with the retail/Paradox/GG versions of the base game. We expect to be able to release it within the next days.

CMSFIt's here! The latest version 1.21 patch for COMBAT MISSION SHOCK FORCE, CMSF MARINES and CMSF BRITISH FORCES is available for download! This free patch offers more than 60 improvements and a number of new features, such as:

CMSF v1.20 patches for retail (Paradox) & Gamersgate PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 September 2009

CMSF LogoThe v1.20 patches for COMBAT MISSION SHOCK FORCE retail versions (Paradox) as well as Gamersgate are finally out now! The list of changes, additions, new features and bux fixes is impressively long as usual, below just a few snapshots of what's awaiting you in the latest free upgrade to the series:

  • "Pop Smoke" can now be aimed using the Face Command or current unit facing.
  • Floating icons for friendly units now briefly blink after sustaining a casualty.
  • Spotters for indirect support weapons are now able to target areas slightly outside of direct LOS under certain circumstances, such as when firing indirectly over a tall wall or just behind the crest of a hill.
  • Muzzle flame, smoke, dust, and other effects directly attached to enemy unit behavior are no longer shown unless the unit is already spotted by at least one friendly soldier.
  • Campaign players now have an option to switch between RealTime and WeGo Modes in between battles.
  • Scenario game time limit has been increased to 4 hours

The v1.20 incremental patches are about 100+ MB each in size and require v1.10 or v1.11 to be installed already. These patches are for owners of the base game ONLY and are NOT needed if you own at least one CMSF Module (Marines or British Forces).
