- George McEwan 2009-11-05 14:23:38 I liked the overall concept of this (thought about making a campaign covering these guys?)as I enjoy mech heavy scenarios.
Map is well done - nice sparse and undulating desert terrain, as are the briefing graphics.
Mission was straightforward in it's intent (although I got a minor defeat see latter). I lost most of my casualties assaulting the village. Having to get close meant I came under fire from enemy AT assets and lost two BIFVs before my overwatch could ID and nail the enemy AT. There was a very persistent sniper who also nailed most of my dismounts (4KIA and 15 WIA).
Once I cleared the village I then mounted back up and hightailed it for the trench line. The trenches were pretty straightforward to clear as I'd heaps of overwatch to pin down any Syrians who showed their head above the parapet. It was case of getting dismounts into the trench then work my way along clearing as I went.
Overall I enjoyed this. It's a nice clean and easy to get into scenario. Worth checking out and playing. Cheers for this Apocal :)
- gregory KELLER 2009-11-15 05:43:16 Played in elite, I got the Red surrendering and a Draw at the end of the time, despite having taken the village and the OP.
The Red had only 24 men left, 42 KIA, 21 WIA and 22 missing.
The blue suffered 1 KIA, 6 WIA, 1 Bradley IFV and 2 Humvees destroyed. It is a simple and desert landscape with nothing to see but bare ground, besides a derelict village, really not out of place. That is the way some place looks like over there.
To my taste, the Blue force is too powerful as soon as the AT assets is suppress. I had two prongs in my attack. One on the left, going on overwatch 200 meters or so short of the villages and pouring suppressing fire on the ridge and on their right flank. Then, 2 BIFV and their dismounted troops attacked the village and were later rejoigned.
The right prong stop equally short of the village, the troops dismounted and kept a watch on the village, the ridge and the right flank.
The left prong having cleared the village, had the troops mounting again and they sped to the far left to attack, after having dismounted, the ridge from left to right. The right prong force did the same on the right attacking from right to left on the top of the ridge.
If the red had 2 or 3 tanks at the most and or AT assets on their rear flank, that would have been the end of my assaulting guys and tracks.
That I am sure, George MC would have done it. No doubt about it. Anyway, I got a good time. Thanks for it.
