"But as the Italians attacked, the British got in the all-important first shot, their guns ripping through the Italian armor, turning M13s into burning coffins, wrecking eight. Before the stunned Italians could return fire, the British had withdrawn down the slope, to repeat the example, destroying seven more tanks with no loss. The Italians opened up with artillery and committed their reserves, as did the British. "As the firing tapered off, the Germans stared in awe at the scene before them, the burning American tanks almost seeming to have been lined up to have their picture taken. Wolff recalled how his battalion commander, “laughing like a boy, went from company to company asking us and himself too: ‘Did you ever see anything like it? Did you ever see anything like it?’”…“I can still see the long line of fires in front of which our tanks cruised up and down, their engines humming, calm yet proud after a good day’s work,” he recalled." - from the CMAK Companion, Chapter 71, "Proud After A Good Day's Work".

Why the name Combat Mission: Afrika Korps (CMAK)?

We debated internally several names for this game but settled on Combat Mission: Afrika Korps since it has an immediate name recognition factor and was easy to remember and is also rather catchy. It also helps define one of the key regions that is being featured in the game, but North Africa is only one of three regions. The other two are Italy and Crete.

Does that mean this game is ONLY about the Afrika Korps and North Africa?

Not at all! CMAK will feature four main regions.

  • East Africa from 1940-1941
  • North Africa from 1940-43
  • Italy (including Sicily) from 1943-45
  • Crete in 1941

Each region will have its own unique OOB's (Order of Battles) and TO&E's (Tables of Organization and Equipment), terrain, weather and graphics.

Is this an addon to CMBB or a whole new game?

It is a new game, based on the Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin engine but with many refinements and improvements.

How much will it cost?

$25.00 US Dollars.

Will there be a new Combat Mission: Bundle Pack featuring CMAK?

Actually, yes there will. The new bundle will feature CMAK and CMBB and will begin shipping on December 5th, 2003. The bundle will have a price of $60 which is a savings of ten dollars over the price for both games separately.

Will European players be able to purchase CMAK directly from Battlefront.com?

YES, they will be able to purchase the game in English, French and German directly version from us, online without restriction, regardless of where you live.

The game ships in a new multi-language format allowing you to choose to install and play the game in English, French or German.

Localized versions in German and French will be also be available in European retail stores through a distribution partner.

Is this game a whole new engine than CMBO/CMBB?

No, it is not a completely new engine. It is based on the CMBB game engine but will have some new enhancements and refinements and as well as some new game features.

I have heard people frequently speak of a "new game engine" which is in development, why isn't CMAK using this engine?

The new engine is being developed separately from CMAK. The working title for this second generation engine is CMX2 but the development time on this engine will take at least another year if not more to complete. In the coming months more information about CMX2 will be released.

What sort of new features will CMAK have?

Among the many new features, you can count on seeing multi-turreted vehicles (and those with turrets and sponsons) as well as sand and smoke kicked up from moving vehicles as well as artillery barrages and even cannon shells. We have also increased the map sizes for both scenarios and operations. And lets not forget the dozens of TacAI tweaks and enhancements.

Will there be a patch to update either CMBO or CMBB to include those same new features mentioned above?

No. Both CMBO and CMBB are effectively finished products. Focus must now be placed on future products which include CMAK and CMX2.

Will CMAK be available for Mac and PC versions both?

Yes.

Will both PC and Mac versions be on the same CD like CMBO?

No. Each version will come on its own CD and will need to be purchased separately, as we did with CMBB.

Will it work on Mac OS-X?

No. Since this game is still based on the original Combat Mission code which was designed to run on Rave3D and that API is not currently supported in OS-X, CMAK will not run in native OS-X mode. In all likelihood it will also not work in classic mode either but we can not predict what changes Apple may make with Classic Rave3D support between now and the time CMAK is released. Either way, OS-X in native or classic mode is NOT supported. The aforementioned CMX2 engine WILL support OS-X.

What are the system specs to run CMAK?

They are equivalent to CMBB but you will need at least 2 gig's free on your hard drive in order to install the game. it's big!

How many units, vehicles will CMAK ship with?

Approximately 700 different vehicles, tanks, weapon teams, infantry units and more.

Which nationalities will be included?

  • USA
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Britain
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Poland
  • South Africa
  • France

How many Scenarios and Operations will be included?

70 in total. 63 Scenarios and 7 Operations.

Will we be able to mod the graphics and sound like we have done in the past?

Yes. BMP based graphics and WAV based sounds will be totally modable as in CMBO and CMBB.

Will CMAK have a printed manual?

In order to reduce costs on this game and be able to sell it for only $35 we have decided to ship it with the main manual as a 210+ PDF file which is installed along with the game from the CD. The manual is very similar to the previous CMBB manual and we feel the vast manjority of players of CMAK will already own CMBB. CMAK will also ship with a 32 page printed Player Guide with a detachable Quick Reference Card.

When is it coming out?

CMAK is now on sale and shipping!
