The Ki.102 was designed to be an interceptor to defend Japan from the US bomber raids. It was heavily armed and capable of bringing down the large bombers. The Randy had good engines and operated well at higher altitudes. It also had a rear gunner to help fend off attacks by escorting fighters. The Randy had an excellent range of 3,000 miles.
