Like its board-game counterpart, DIF emphasizes
ease of play over hard realism--meaning that some war-game purists
might be annoyed by the level of abstract gameplay presented here.
But those purists are missing a real gem: For $35, you get a ton of
replayability plus new downloadable planes and campaigns each month.
For those who don't mind abstraction in the name of fun, DIF is a
must-have. Easy to play, tough to tear yourself away from.

Down in Flames is old-school in the best sense: no
empty flash or fluff, just highly addictive gameplay... Down in Flames
is also conveniently easy to jump into and out of when you want a
quick bit of fun. Then again, it's so addictive that you'll probably
be playing for a good, long time.

If gaming is about interesting decisions,
Down in Flames is full of them. None of it is done with gimmicky
graphics, arbitrary dics rolls, or rock-paper-scissors. Down
in Flames is a testament to how a solid card game design can be translated
to the computer a minuimum of chrome and not lose the features that
were the point of the game to begin with.
Down in Flames is excellent. It has the right mix of
simple mechanics and strategy that makes an outstanding game. Now,
the developers could have stopped here, but they added great multiplayer
capabilities to further enhance the gameplay... Down in Flames is
a great computer game that strategy fans should not overlook.

So what did I find about this game that I found so refreshing?
The magic of DiF is that it focuses less on aircraft and more on the
men flying them. From the Lobby screen, you will form pilots out of
the dust, raise up squadrons to defend your cause and launch them
into harms way. Not only is this a refreshing approach, but a critical
choice for a game that doesn’t have a single line of physics
code... Boy, it sounds like there’s might be a lot going on
here? You’d better believe it! DiF is no game of Go Fish with
little airplanes on ‘em. Not only is there skill needed to play
this game, but there’s strategy and tactics at work...not to
mention a little luck. I knew Battlefront had me hooked when I found
myself yelling at my monitor when the AI would pull its fate out of
my hands or I wouldn’t get the right defensive card when I was
faced with certain death. Take it from me, like any great game DiF
is full of twists and turns.
