DropTeam review posted on Associated Content website
We missed this when it was first published but there is a very nice DropTeam review that was posted recently over on the Associated Content website. Reviewer Jeff Gedgaud had this to say: "I found that the game has a very good variety of different vehicles and assets that make a well rounded battle even in the future. They have done a good job in recreating the various aspects of combat in a battle zone and the usefulness of a variety of assets, not all of which are the heavy weapons of main battle tanks. Using the small recon cars and the command vehicles has shown how these types of vehicles in real combat have their uses and are a much needed part of any combat."

Beta version of Scenario Editor Released
TBG Software and Battlefront.com
are thrilled to announce the release of a public beta version of
the full featured Scenario Editor for DropTeam!
This brand new Scenario editor allows for
the creation of entirely new worlds, maps and missions, including
Physical Properties, Skybox, Ambient Sounds, Particle Emitters,
Elevation Data, Textures, Terrain Types, Fluids, Game Types and
Objects and more.

This takes the already powerful physics engine
to new heights and allows players to create brand new maps of up
to 1000 square kilometers, including all deformable terrain, its
own unique physics (gravitation, atmosphere.) and more! Dropteam
is already using XML files for modding and reads data from professional
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) packages such as ArcGIS and
Terragen, and as such is becoming one of the most extensively moddable
game packages available. An expansion to the Sci-Fi themed base
game covering World War Two is already planned.
The Scenario Editor is available
as a free download, and is even available with source code in an
open license to encourage users to create new exciting missions
and battles for DropTeam - mechanized combat in
the far future!

WWII Expansion for DropTeam announced
TBG Software and Battlefront.com today announced
a new DropTeam expansion, this time set during World War 2.
DT-WW2 (working title) is an exciting extension
of the DropTeam game system set in WWII. Players command realistically
detailed WWII tanks, infantry, and guns in a detailed environment
populated by up to 16 players per side.
As with the original DropTeam, each player
commands a single unit at a time and coordinates his actions with
teammates to achieve various victory conditions, or can play from
a more strategic perspective by using the commander's interface
on the overall tactical map to issue orders to units much like a
traditional RTS game.
Steve Grammont, co-founder of Battlefront.com
said: "Teams that know how to use complimentary units in combination
with each other will likely crush those who don't. For example,
one player may command an armored half track while another rides
inside with an infantry team, while a third sticks close by with
a heavily armored tank for protection.
Since we know we are going to be asked, here
are our thoughts on the realism of DT-WW2. The units and environment
are extremely realistically portrayed. DropTeam already has an amazingly
life like physics engine complete with ballistics and armor handling
tha t is extremely accurate. The tactics that DT-WW2 encourages
are also quite realistic with a heavy emphasis on cooperation of
infantry and armor.
Yet with all this realism the emphasis is,
like with DropTeam before it, on having fun! This is a fast paced,
adrenaline pumping gaming experience. New features such as buildings
that can be occupied/destroyed, the ability to bail out of damaged
vehicles, reinforcement zones, air attacks, and other exciting features
will make sure of that."
DT-WW2 will evolve over time, covering different
theaters of combat at different points in the war. The initial setting
will be the hectic battles in Normandy during the summer of 1944.
As with the previous DropTeam, it can be experienced using Windows,
Mac, and LINUX operating systems. More details to come later this
summer!

Recent patch adds Infantry units!
Earlier this week the 1.1 patch was pushed
out via our automated game Update system and now brings the game
to the v1.1 level. The most obvious change is the addition of Infantry
squads. Presently, there are three new squad types modeled (with
many more on the way) and represent lightly armored troops, with
medium range jump packs and equipped with an assortment of beam,
rifled and heavy weapons.
The developers have prepared a little movie
for you showing off some of the enhanced mobility and lethal anti-tank
skills that infantry posses. Check it out!

DropTeam™ review posted at Out of Eight website, "DropTeam
feels like war..."
The gaming and review website "Out of
Eight" has just posted their review of DropTeam. Reviewer,
James Allen had this to say about the game, "DropTeam has a good
selection of unique features that makes it stand out as a multiplayer
vehicle-oriented shooter. I've reviewed other tank-heavy combat games
(Think Tanks and Battle Carry) and DropTeam is far and away the best,
and can even compete on some levels with the likes of Battlefield
2.". He went on to say, "The game features an impressive
list of varied armor to use, appealing to all kinds of players. Smaller
additions like minimap targeting and commander support contribute
to the overall excellent feel of the game."

Developer Interview posted at Gamecloud
Developer TBG Software has
been working on their futuristic tank combat action game DropTeam™
for some time now and Gamecloud
got a chance to chat with the game's lead programmer Clay Fowler
to find out more about the game which will be published by Battlefront.com.
Gamecloud - How did the idea
for DropTeam™ come about?
Clay Fowler - DropTeam™
is the game that we've always wanted to play. We've been programming
and playing games since the days of VAX and Sinclair home computers,
so we've watched the industry's steady slide from innovative titles
with interesting gameplay down the slippery slope into slick, glitzy,
graphically amazing, but brainless and unoriginal titles. We've
found ourselves playing games less over the past few years because
we're tired of playing the same first person shooter with a new
"hero" and some new bump-mapping effects, or the same
RTS click-fest game where somehow new military units "pop out"
of buildings and the player who builds the most wins. We wanted
something better.

58 new screenshots posted
We have posted 58 new screenshots
which clearly show some of the incredible advances the game has undergone
recently including all new vehicle textures (Winter and Summer camo),
units and the use of advanced post processing graphics effects such
as High Dynamic Range rendering and full screen glow. Through innovative
coding, these exciting effects are even available in DropTeam™
for those without cutting edge video cards!

technical cut-away schematics describing the different internal
components of the Apollo Light Tank, Hurricane Hover Tank, Mercury

GameSpy DropTeam™ Preview
GameSpy has posted
a short preview of DropTeam™ based on their experiences with
a recent build.
"You'll get to
control individual vehicles from third- and first-person views,
as well as issue orders to teammates from an overhead tactical map.
The focus will be on combat; there's no base-building or resource-gathering.
Game modes will include capture the flag, objective-based attack/defend
scenarios, territorial capture, and the provisionally titled OGRE
(inspired by the classic tabletop game of the same name), which
pits one player in a massive tank against a swarm of smaller, conventional
vehicles."

Master of Orion, while on the other hand you will actually be
controlling the units moving into battle. "
