Below are a few of the buildings that are typically found in outposts that were founded by early settlers in The Rim. They follow the standard, reusable design templates of the Mu Arae Entente, so these buildings cropped up all over The Rim before larger, more unique towns and cities rose later after initial settlement. These building templates continued to see use even later in The Rim’s history, as new settlements were made or existing ones relocated. Many of the habitated places in The Rim that survived the war with Mu Arae consist of these buildings, since these were the more remote settlements.

Mechanical Bay

This is a mechanical maintenance facility. It supports a subset of the nanofacture technology employed by Liveships, so it is able to affect repairs and modifications to many different types of hardware.

Reasearch Station

Designed for scientific research, but often adapted for use as medical centers, these buildings feature many hermetically sealed compartments and specialized utilities, laboratories and research centers.

Housing Unit

These are basic, modular living quarters with integrated life support, waste reclamation and recycling facilities for extended periods of habitation. Each unit is intended to support approximately 4 colonists.

Communications Station

The Comm Station is an advanced suite of electronic systems, including powerful communication and sensor systems. Each Communication Station also includes full sensor and sensor jamming arrays.

Airpad

Combined aircraft support facility and launch and recovery platform. Often used by indigenous planatary forces to support atmospheric aircraft.

Power Storage Station

Usually located near anti-matter containment plants, these buildings are mainly support cocoons for the incredibly dense flywheel that spins inside of them. Power generated by anti-matter (or other sources) is fed into these units in order to spin up their flywheel, which is constructed of a super-dense alloy and is levitated on a frictionless, superconducting bearing for maximum energy storage efficiency. These units are designed to be easily transported, so if anti-matter can’t be found, then these power storage units are the next best thing.
