In the Soviet Army, the ATGM was adopted in antitank Army and Front brigades. Russian Army and armed forces of several CIS countries are using the Shturm-S at the present time.

The Shturm-S features the self-propelled launcher 9P149 with 9M114 missile. The launcher is mounted on a MTLB chassis. It is equipped with a missile guidance system and automatic loader.

The 9M114 missile is the world's first supersonic ATGM. It is fitted with a solid fuel booster and mid-flight engine. The missile can be equipped with a high-explosive warhead to inflict losses to enemy personnel and weapon emplacements. The ATGM has a semi-automatic guidance system with command transfer via radio.
