Notes

South African Soldier 2000 camo is the new standard camo for the Army. The pattern looks a little like US 6 Color Desert, but the colors and style are noticeably different when examined in detail. The first issue items were made in 1994 but not officially issued until 1995.
The construction is quite good with a comfortable cut, though the artificial fiber content means the colors wear out more easily than others. The first pattern uniform had a short sleeved shirt, though many soldiers unofficially (and contrary to regulations) made their own by cutting off the sleeves of the long sleeve shirt. The second pattern uniform, which looks more like US BDUs, does not have a short sleeved shirt at all. Apparently the sleeves are very uncomfortable when rolled up so some soldiers (again, contrary to regulations) cut the sleeves down and rolled up just the ends so it looked like the whole sleeve was rolled up instead of just an inch or two. |
