Fleck (aka "Spot")

Years Used
1990s - 2003 (?)

Known Items
Winter Jacket, Shirt, Trousers, Cap, Slipon Rank
Notes
In the late 1990s the Romanian Army adopted a sort of Fleck pattern using 4 colors. The colors, like many uniforms, are varied from rich (above) to more bland (below). The uniform structure itself is quite unique, with very narrow, large flapped pants pockets. The hat is in the traditional Romanian exaggerated peak style that has been in use for a century or so. The pattern is quite attractive and should be quite effective in the mountainous terrain of Romania as well as typical European forests.

Notes
Issued right along side the Romanian Fleck uniform is this striking Leaf pattern. The uniform is of a slightly different construction too, though photos indicate soldiers frequently wear both types of items at the same time (e.g. Fleck trousers and Leaf Jacket)

Known Items

Notes
A commercial version of British DPM started appearing in Romania during the 1990s. Apparently it began use with police units, but now appears to be in widespread Army use (including Desert DPM). There is also a blue version for, I assume, police units. The pattern is fairly similar to the British original in all respects, except that subtle speckles are a bit different. However, I have seen some pictures which suggest Romanians are also using cast off surplus British P94 uniforms. I do have a small bag which is certainly of Romanian construction and origin, which clearly indicates domestic production of some sort.
