Notes
|
Having liberated itself quite quickly and "painlessly" (compared to Croatia, B-H, and Kosovo) from Yugoslavia, the Slovene Army first adopted US Army Woodland pattern clothing. Once they got better organized they quickly introduced a four color Puzzle pattern uniform.
From what I can piece together, a factory in Maribor (Slovenia) had made a uniform which saw brief service with the Yugoslav Army around 1989, just before the breakup. This trials pattern is best called Compressed Puzzle. It eventually became the standard Yugoslav/Serb M89 Puzzle pattern by making the shapes a bit larger and using the same colors. When Slovenia decided to field their own national pattern for its new armed forces, it would appear they dusted off the trials pattern screens, changed the colors, and created a new pattern from it. Best I can tell the Slovene and Yugoslav trials patterns have the same exact shapes, but obviously with different colors. One Serbian Army officer claims that the Slovene coloring was tried out prior to the Slovene independence for the Yugoslav Army, but I have no confirmation of that. |
